AI meal planner and recipe scanner

Just ask

Smart Actions are the clever bits of My Tomte, powered by AI. Say what you want, snap what you’ve got, and the tomte does the fiddly part.

Plan by asking

Type what you’d say to a very patient housemate:

  • “Something quick with chicken on Tuesday.”
  • “No red meat this week, and nothing spicy for the kids.”
  • “Use up the pumpkin before Friday.”

The week rearranges itself, and every dietary rule still applies.

Photo to recipe

A splattered cookbook page. A magazine clipping. A PDF from your favourite food blog. Snap it or upload it and it becomes a proper recipe, ingredients and all. (Handwriting is beyond the tomte for now. He was never great at cursive.)

Receipt reading

Snap the receipt and your kitchen fills itself in, prices included.

What counts as a Smart Action

Each of these uses one:

  • Planning or changing meals by asking
  • Turning a photo into a recipe
  • Reading a receipt

Everything else is free to use as much as you like: planning the week, swapping meals, shopping lists, calendars and tasks.

Your data and AI

Smart Actions are powered by Google Gemini and Anthropic. Only what a request needs is sent (your request, the photo or receipt, and details like dietary rules so the answer follows them), and neither provider trains its AI on your data. Data and security

Smart Action questions

Do I have to use Smart Actions?

Not at all. Everything else in My Tomte works without them.

What happens if I run out?

Everything else keeps working. Top up, or wait for next month’s allowance.

Do dietary rules still apply when I ask for something?

Always. Asking nicely doesn’t get around an allergy.

What’s coming next?

Finding and building recipes just by asking. It’s on the roadmap .
